WindSim course at HUSUMwind
In connection with HUSUMwind 2003, VECTOR arranges a WindSim course on Friday 26 September. The course is directed towards new WindSim users, but everyone interested in the use of CFD within wind energy will benefit from attending. For registration and course content please visit: http://windsim.com
VECTOR will be present at the HUSUMwind exhibition. We look forward to welcoming you at our Stand B238 in Hall 2 in order to see the latest version, and benefit from some hands-on experience.
Offshore resources in Norway
The "Norwegian Wind Atlas" is now extended with the offshore resources along the 2700 km long Norwegian coastline. The terrain along the coast is complex, and the bathymetry data displays a similar complexity. Still, shallow areas of about 20 000 km2 exist, with highly favourable wind speeds; see "Norwegian Wind Atlas"
The 1982 Mehamn air crash - still a puzzle
On the 11 March 1982 an aircraft of type Twin Otter crashed. The aircraft went down over open sea outside a plateau at Mehamn in north Norway. All 15 persons onboard died in the accident. Two former commissions concluded that the crash was caused by heavy turbulence.
The conclusion from the former commissions has not been fully accepted. Locals report to have observed a military aircraft in the area, and a possible crash with another aircraft has never been ruled out. Currently a third commission is undertaking a re-investigation. Part of the investigation consists of performing WindSim simulations of the turbulence over the plateau. The commission will report their findings next summer.
