TØNSBERG, NORWAY and Saint Vaast de Longmont, FRANCE (July 11, 2016) - WindSim AS, the leading provider and pioneer of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) based wind modelling software and services expanded its global operations with the opening of WindSim France, a new subsidiary based in the Oise, Picardy. WindSim France will enable corporations throughout France to utilize WindSim's proven simulation software and services to help design and operate more profitable wind farms.
Founded in 1993, WindSim is privately-held and venture-backed with offices and partners in Argentina, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Finland, Greece, India, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Norway, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, USA and now France. WindSim’s comprehensive range of software and technical services cover the entire lifecycle of a wind farm and has been proven internationally for more than a decade. WindSim, the company's flagship product, is a world-class software solution based on CFD that combines advanced numeric processing with compelling 3D visualization in a user-friendly interface. Other services include wind measurement equipment, virtual wind data, potential site screening, measurement campaign design, wind resource mapping, bankable AEP assessments, site suitability studies, post construction assessments, power forecasting and dynamic line rating.
The French market is a major market benefitting from the third largest wind resource in Europe and has enjoyed a steady growth with commitment and continued major investment for many years.
“When I started in wind energy back in 2002, it was with WindSim that I was able to gain my first practical experience in modelling and optimisation of wind farms and I am delighted to be returning to the WindSim team to represent the company in a market I have worked in and seen develop over the past 14 years, said Chris Hooley, Business Development Director WindSim France.
“At that time, WindSim was pitched at primarily complex terrain projects and with a view to providing accurate production forecasting and wind characteristics for given site conditions. Now, it is applied to the whole life-cycle of a wind farm, from initial design and layout, through to the day-to-day operations management, with power forecasting, yield predictions, backed-up by whole suite of related services and packages, to assist not just the planners and developers, but perhaps more importantly, the operations management which will be responsible for the majority of the life of wind farm assets, enabling contributing to optimal and profitable operation. We can assist on this both through our own consultancy services or via partnership and assistance to our clients own specialists.
The requirements of planners are much more demanding these days and the application of accurate and sophisticated modelling is of paramount importance in predicting the operational potential of wind farms for their profitable and satisfactory implementation for their planned 20/25 years and even beyond. It is clear that investors increasingly demand more accurate studies which will allow for greater protection of financiers interests and WindSim has a comprehensive range of tools and experts which can help the industry to achieve this”
"WindSim has always generated great interest from prospective customers and partners in the French marketplace for our technology solutions. Through our establishment in Picardy, we show our strong commitment and a long term strategy to work with wind industry players in France and to ensure that they have a local support with knowledge of the industry and the conditions for mutual success", said John Olaf Rømma, CEO WindSim AS.
The announcement from WindSim AS comes eleven months after a successful joint venture in Brazil, and more recently, a new company in Sub-Saharan Africa (Cape Town, South Africa) with cutting-edge product innovation, and successive quarters of positive growth. The reinforcement by way of its presence in this major market is one of the international expansion efforts by WindSim AS.
